Sunrise over Cerro Tololo Observatory

Lights from ... the Chilean Andes at sunrise

Let us go from France to Chile, and travel more than 11 000 km! Chile is one of the best places on Earth for observing the night sky. There, I had the opportunity to visit a lot of dark-sky locations as well as high-class professional observatories.
This picture was taken from the famous Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), whose main V.Blanco telescope, was the first 4-meter-class telescope to be constructed in Chile.
In August 2018, I spent a night atop the 2100 meter-altitude Tololo mount, where I did not sleep at all... This picture indicates the very end of the night, when the first lights of the day were about to show up.

On the picture, we can see several telescopes which are operated by CTIO 's employees but belong to worldwide institutions.
It is there that the supernova survey program ASAS-SN is located.
