Diving into the Galactic Center

Lights from ... the Heart of the Milky Way

Before travelling in the southern hemisphere for the first time, the target of my dreams was undoubtedly the galactic bulge! It is hard to believe that the galactic center is the brightest region of the night sky since it never reaches high elevation in the northern hemisphere.
Well, during that winter night, atop a 1400 meter-mountain in Chile, the galactic core was at zenith! I was stunned. This region is also the primary target for astronomers since they can probe the active and heavy populated zone of the galactic nucleus.
In this 3-stitched-image panorama of 60 seconds single exposure, we can spot a lot of nebulae, star clusters, dark clouds, interstellar medium, Saturn and also a tiny comet (333P/LINEAR)
